Derek Simon is a Senior Engineer at Creek Run and joined the Creek Run team in October 2014. Derek earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in August 2010.  He is a Registered Professional Engineer (#PE11500716) and Class B Wastewater Operator (#WW020011) in the State of Indiana. He has completed the OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and attends yearly 8-hour refresher courses.

As the Senior Engineer at Creek Run, Derek provides engineering support to the Creek Run staff and is responsible for planning and development of remedial strategies, preparing corrective action plans (CAPs)/remediation work plans (RWPs), and designing remedial system layouts.  Once a CAP/RWP is approved, Derek coordinates with clients and regulatory agencies, prepares bid specifications, and evaluates/awards remedial contracts. Derek oversees site-specific remedial system operation and prepares remedial system evaluations.  Derek also has experience characterizing the nature and extent of contaminant plumes, preparing closure strategies, performing Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), preparing Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Tier II Reports, and various permit applications.  Additionally, he assists clients in obtaining compliance status with state and local air and water quality programs in the form of process inventories, new source air permits, and National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits.

Prior to joining Creek Run, Derek obtained four years of experience in environmental engineering during his time with environmental consulting firms in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He provided engineering and management support for several sites in IDEM’s Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) program, Voluntary Remediation Program (VRP), and State Cleanup Program (SCP). Derek was responsible for oversight, maintenance, and compliance reporting for groundwater remediation systems using pump and treat (P&T), multi-phase extraction (MPE), and air sparge/soil vapor extraction (AS/SVE) technologies.  Derek was also a member of an emergency response team.  He has contributed to the clean-up and remediation of several large spills including a release of oil onto Lake Michigan and a petroleum spill along a major U.S. highway.

Derek and his wife, Ashley, have been married for 3 years and enjoy spending their spare time with family, friends, and their two dogs (puggles).
